In this educational and hilarious science communication offering, listen to top neuroscientists RANT about the myths and miscommunications that make them mad! And learn what the science is actually saying - directly from the experts’ mouths.
Who’s RANTing this time?
Dr. Leah Mayo is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the Cumming School of Medicine, and a Full Member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and the Mathison Centre for Mental Health Research & Education. In fact, she is the Parker Research Chair in Psychedelics at the U of C’s Hotchkiss Brain Institute. That means she is their psychedelic expert.
Her research focuses on developing new pharmacological interventions for stress-related mental health disorders, such as substance use disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder. Her group has a particular focus on cannabinoid- and psychedelic-based therapeutic opportunities, which they explore using behavioural pharmacology, psychophysiology, and neuroimaging. You are going to want to listen to her absolutely magical RANT!
What is she RANTing about?
- Does microdosing do anything?
- Does MDMA put holes in your brain?
- What does “psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy” even mean?
- Should I try psychedelics to make myself feel better?
- Are psychedelics safer and better than traditional antidepressants?
- What brain and mental health disorders have psychedelics been shown to help?
- What do psychedelics have to do with AA (Alcoholics Anonymous)?
What will I learn?
You are guaranteed to receive a mind-bending education on one of the most talked about topics today: Psychedelics. You will get the facts directly from a leading neuroscientist, Dr. Leah Mayo, who is a top researcher in this field. And you will have the opportunity to ask her all of your trippy questions. You will leave with accurate, evidence-based information so you can make the most informed and best decisions about psychedelics, including micro-dosing, psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy, how psychedelics rate up against medications, and what neurological or psychiatric conditions they may help.
